Services to Youth

"The question is not whether we can afford to invest in every child; it is whether we can afford not to." ~ Marian Wright Edelman

The Links, Incorporated created its first program facet, Services to Youth, to equip black youth to use their intellect and spirit of achievement to become successful and productive citizens. Today, The Links, Incorporated continues to implement aligned, integrated and transformational programs that are responsive to the academic, health, cultural, social awareness, career development, and mentoring needs of youth.

The primary goals of this facet are to:

  • Expand and support science, technology, engineering, mathematics education, and promote the integration of arts (STEM, STEAM).
  • Port City (TX) Chapter has chartered over 5 NSBE Jr Chapters (National Society of Black Engineers) in our targeted communities.
  • Port City (TX) Chapter and sponsored (pre Covid-19) annual Health Education and Science Fair with local community partners
  • Sponsored local science fairs and competitions
  • Promote and support historically black colleges and universities for ensured sustainability

Our mission

To prepare the youth for the global workforce as healthy citizens via three national initiatives, two signature programs and two national programs.

Our goals

To close the achievement gap from pre-K through college, to support HBCUs, to expand the support of STEM initiatives and integrate the arts (STEM to STEAM)

Feature Program:

NSBE Jr. Partnership

Through our work with the  NSBE Jr. Chapters, we have impacted over 250 students in the Houston Independent School and Fort Bend Independent School Districts.  Our programs impact students from elementary, middle to high school.

Each week NASA volunteers worked with students to prepare their science experiments for the Gregg and Young Elementary science fairs.  Texas Southern University and Prairie View A & M University science professors and NSBE engineering students conducted experiments and presentations for students at Blue Ridge Elementary.  Young Women's College Preparatory Academy (YWCPA) has an award winning chapter where their students have consistently placed in the top tier of the NSBE National Robotics Competitions.
